Viggo Mortensen
El Capitan Alatriste Pictures
on the set. The first
two pictures show Viggo in costume and the last picture shows him
in a casual, soccer-ball printed shirt. Thank you to Viggo-org.com.

At the Viggo-org forum, a recurring mention is
how the pictures show Viggo’s weight loss and that someone needs
to cook a hefty meal for Viggo so he can gain weight.
This forum has a lighthearted atmosphere and it’s fun to
watch fans’ comments.
How Viggo appears on the screen (undernourished
or bigger than life) will depend on the director’s camera angles, the costume
designer, other filmmaking techniques or Viggo as his role or
himself. What
is meant here is similar to what I heard on an audio CD.
The former TV producer narrator was talking about how in his
office, slouched on his couch, was an old, very frail man.
The man’s name was Jack Benny.
The producer panicked because he wondered how Benny can go on
the TV show when he looked so weak.
A few minutes before the show, the producer watched Jack
Benny in the mirror garnering all his energy to make himself appear
much younger and bigger than he looked on the couch.
The TV producer was amazed as he watched Benny "become" his
young self again and this made the show a success.
The narrator’s point on “focused energy”
was that many performers (including ourselves in our daily lives),
during down time, may look just that—having some down time.
There is no need to be on the “stage” all the time.
This may mean we look weaker, hungrier, sicker, whatever, or
just hanging out like the picture below suggests.

This monthly column usually has pictures of
Viggo so if you missed the earlier ones, see monthly
column site map.
