Ray Movie Review
Wow. What an
enjoyable movie. It makes you want to go out and buy Ray Charles'
music right away.
First thoughts after
watching Ray:
Jamie Foxx made me
forget he was Jamie Foxx, the comedian.
Great, favorite scene
of young Ray discovering the keenness of his hearing, as he finds the
cricket on the floor.
Ray showing his emotion
(great genuine crying from Foxx) after his mistress dies of an overdose
and what can wife do but just stand there and watch? This scene is
well-acted.
Wife upset when Ray
says, "My house," reinforcing the helplessness women can feel
because their biological make-up makes it difficult for them to go out and
make a living at whim. And how the movie shows the wife showing her
strength and encouraging influence, despite Ray's actions while on the
road. When she says, "I'm no fool." That basically
sums up her character. She obviously loves Ray, especially when she
tells him that she can leave "all of this" -- the mansion,
etc.
The emotional and
psychological impact of the death of Ray's brother coinciding with the
drug-taking and rehab scenes.
The humor of how Ray
uses his survival instincts in the scene when he lies about being in
Normandy.
