As a screenwriter, you must watch the
Academy Awards. Or at least tape it if you can't watch it
live. Why? It's the one time you get to see your favorite
actors and actresses all at one time. Moreover, you will find out
who won in all the categories. This is important because you will
then be given ideas of how to approach your writing. From what
angle will you write? From who won the best adapted or original
screenplay? Or who won best actor, actress or picture?
The list of nominations is also
important. At the very least, watch all the nominated
movies. However, sometimes you are forced to wait for the
video. For example, it appears that The Pianist, which is nominated for
the 75th Oscars, is no longer in theaters, at least in my area.
