I went to see this movie because it was
nominated for an Academy Award.
After seeing it, I couldn't believe my
eyes. I had a similar reaction when I saw the first Star Wars eons ago.
How did this movie affect me?
1. I liked it so much I went
straight to Blockbuster and rented the first movie, Fellowship of
the Rings. I wanted to see how the first one compared with the
second film. Basically, I wanted to iron out my confusion because
I didn't see the first movie.
2. The character of Aragorn,
played by Viggo
Mortensen, interested me so much I had to read more
about him.
3. Elijah Wood is a true, unique
talent and his role as Frodo fits him well.
4. I was convinced that Peter
Jackson is one of today's great, leading directors and should be
included with the many, other, great directors, past, present, and
future.
After seeing the first movie, my
reaction was again, WOW! The visual effects of both movies are
beautiful, effective, seductive, engaging, and not only that, the acting
is excellent!
The camera work goes back and forth
from close-up to wide shots. The director likes to put a face close
to the screen and another face or actor behind which gives great
visuals. Also, landscapes are beautifully photographed. The
scenery shots, the special effects, the acting, and the actors all put
together make this a fantastic film!
But most of all, I was struck by Viggo
Mortensen. The director knows how to photograph him and with these
two talents working together (along with everyone who made the movie), Lord
of the Rings "flies" off the screen and takes the audience
with it.
The Lord of the Rings movies has
just gained one more fan.
