There are many screenwriting competitions to
choose from. Many reveal who won and what scripts from
their list of winners were bought, optioned or picked up by an
agent. This format assures the writer of the contest's
validity.
Because there are so many scripts out there,
only the "best" ones or "marketable" ones
are noticed. Thus, after you research the contest and feel
your script fits the contest, send your best script.
A good resource for looking up contests is given
in Erik Joseph's How
To Enter Screenplay Contests and Win! If you decide to
buy screenwriting software, this book is sometimes included as a free
gift. Otherwise, purchase it separately. This book
lists many of the major contests and even includes the smaller
ones. It also does a good job of quickly letting you know
what a competition is specifically looking for.
